Song received her medical qualification in China and specialized in Gynaecology. Her research interest is on the treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV) associated disease and is the leading inventor & patent holder for an anti- HPV ointment which can effectively treat benign and malignant lesions of genital tracts. She obtained a PhD from Queen Mary Medical University in the field of Reproductive medicine in 2005. Since then,Song has worked as a Postdoctoral researcher on various research projects in MDX with particular research interest on the targeted drug delivery using liposomal nanotechnology to treat HPV associated cancers.
