Abstract
This chapter starts off with a discussion of white collar and corporate crime. It then examines the novel traits which characterise the crimes of the powerful and how these impact on the environment. In a concluding analysis, the point is made that the very logic of economic development, supported by the "science" of economics, may be, even if legitimate, equally or more harmful and destructive.
