Abstract

We report a field study of operators in a London Underground control room, analysing cue disambiguation in support of sensemaking. Disambiguation is understood as specifically aiming to map situations to a finite and modest repertoire of responses. However, information 'bottlenecks' threaten this, resulting in 'default' responses under pressure of time.
