Abstract

This essay is part of a wider series of articles criticising the proposal to subordinate the practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to State control via the Health Professions Council. As well as the opposition to the consequences of
this coming from psychoanalysts - of which current I am a notable representative - the proposal has also been criticised by the British Psychological Society. Other places where I have developed the importance of these criticisms are:
