Voices in the forest.
Myers, Julie (2009) Voices in the forest. [Show/Exhibition]
Abstract
This is a site-specific media-scape produced during a co-production residency at The Banff Centre. The media walk invites the audience to experience a child’s view of the forest. The stories were collected and scripted with help from the kindergarten pupils at Banff Elementary School. The work is concerned with these children’s particular understanding of their surrounding landscape, and in creating a parallel world of shared childhood experience though an augmented reality. The audience, wearing headphones, walks through the forest, passing points that trigger a locative media device (using Hewlett Packard’s mScape) to play back the children’s voices.
The work is part of an on-going investigation into landscape and pervasive media applications.
