Nightshots (night music 2008).
Meynell, Katharine (2008) Nightshots (night music 2008). [Show/Exhibition]
Abstract
Nightshots are derived from material shot on a broken camera (stuck in ‘nightshot’) for a year between 2006 and 2007, making a serendipitous connection between dysfunction and surveillance, these works were intended to produce complex meanings and layering of conventions implied by the physical support and its appearance. Originally in a two screen installation form, they were shown at the Fieldgate Gallery in 2007, but I then reworked two sections of the material which were included in Kerry Baldry’s “one minutes volume 2” touring programme.
Nightshots (night music 2008) are two companion works. In the first, a flautist plays a section from ‘eine kleine nachtmusik’ and the tape runs forwards and backwards. In the second, Clippety Clop (a performance art band for which I was backing singer to deaf artist Aaron Williamson) sings a section from ‘Wild Boy’ at a gig at Space on Mare Street Hackney.
