Abstract
My focus will be on employment and work histories of the participants in this research project in order to illustrate the diverse experiences of the Gypsy/Roma people with respect to employment and work, vis a vis their non-Roma counterparts. The aim of this paper will be to unravel some the differential patterns of social mobility between the two groups and to highlight the factors that hinder or promote upward and downward social mobility for the residents of this locale. Issues pertinent to access and participation into the labor market will be exemplified through the narratives of the research participants, both male and female. Finally, some insights will be drawn about the division of labor and the structure of the labor market in late industrialized countries with respect to people with diverse origin.
