Abstract

A retrospective analysis of the exhibition The Other Story, Hayward Gallery, 1989. The paper assesses the achievement of the exhibition as the first historical assessment of Black and Asian artists in post-WW2 Britain, the issue of institutional racism at the time and proposes the exhibition highlights what has been a concealed cosmopolitanism of British art.
