Abstract
This entry in the Elgar Encyclopedia of Human Rights examines hate speech in international and regional human rights instruments. It analyses whether and when restrictions on hate speech can be seen as a violation of the huamn right to freedom of expression of the speaker or author. This includes relevant case law from human rights courts / adjudicating bodies.
