Abstract
This talk discussed a number of magazines and advice manuals from the collections of the Museum of Domestic Design & Architecture (MoDA), and considered the sort of advice that was offered to embroiderers. The talk developed from an interest in the status of hand-crafted objects such as crocheted mats, knitted tea-cosies and so on, both as examples of skill and ingenuity and in their contribution to making a house feel like 'home'.
