Abstract
On the occasion of Richard Saltoun Gallery's exhibition Gina Pane I was invited to speak about an earlier publication that involved a long interview with the photographer Francoise Masson who recorded Pane's actions. The subject of my talk looked back to earlier research of 2004 and situated this in relation to contemporary developments in the discourses and developments within the subject area of performance photography. Masson and I had collaborated and co/authored On Record: advertising, architecture and the actions of Gina Pane, Artwords press, 2004 London in a series edited by Sharon Kivland. Within my talk Richard Saltoun gallery staff activated for the audience the possibility to look at archival works by Gina Pane which were brought out of the gallery store. The subject of my talk centred on Francoise Masson's role and process within the documentation of live performance and examined the nature of Gina Pane's work within the context of works that were on display within the gallery.
