Abstract
This paper examines the rise of anti-intellectualism in art education and what can be done to curtail some of its effects. I argue that art education is fundamentally a Bildung affair and that it is through Bildung that a proper defence of art education can be made. The work attempts to explain some of the significance of Bildung for art education; what makes it enduring and particularly special.
