Abstract
I return, again I reach up, take down a book from my son’s shelf, on the way, there or back – I am not sure which, I wince a familiar wince as I prise a 2x2 Lego brick from the arch of my foot, I go to my study I ponder, I remember, I wonder, I write …. Following on from the previous, this chapter takes a material object that is routinely and habitually found in childhood contexts, across the globe, to reconfigure ideas about gender. The chapter insists that taking matter seriously, in this case the humble Lego brick, can produce both recognizable accounts about gender and also hold the potential to open up ideas and take investigations in unanticipated directions. This chapter works with Haraway’s (2016) SF philosophy, notably her method of string figuring, and her concern to tell stories via methods of speculative fabulation. [...]
