Abstract
Given the proposed expansion in study support for children and young people, it seems timely to examine what is known about its benefits. This report is based on a critical review of descriptions and research studies published in the last 10 years, most of which originated from the UK. The review also included interviews with ten experts in the field of study support. The paper summarises evidence for the benefits of study support for academic, social and personal outcomes and identifies the need for further research in this field.
