Abstract

FM's book Culture/Metaculture has been widely debated since it appeared in 2000. The best-known response was Stefan Collini's review-essay ‘Culture Talk' (New Left Review 7, 2001, pp. 43-53), to which this essay is a reply, defending and clarifying the arguments of the book and extending its analysis into new territory, with a discussion of the Frankfurt School philosophers Adorno and Marcuse as representatives of a special variant of Kulturkritik.
