Bird, Jon (2010) Leon Golub: echoes of the real [2nd ed.]. Reaktion Books, London. ISBN 9781861897657 [Paperback] - 9781861897831 [Hardback 2nd ed.]. [Book]
Abstract
A completely revised and updated edition of my book on Golub with 2 new chapters and over 80 additional illustrations. Also updating of the artists biography, bibliography, exhibitions list, etc.
The book examines Golub's relationship to Modernism and post-war American art. The author argues for Golub's practice as one of 'critical realism', focusing on two themes: how his art figures the body as a sign for social and psychic identity, and the symbolic expression of social space.
