Abstract

The NFER Annual Survey 1997 was the latest in a series of questionnaire surveys of primary schools. Its purpose was to collect and disseminate up-to-date views from schools on current issues in education [...].

Since last year, the proportion of heads expressing concern about curriculum change has risen from 15 per cent to 41 per cent. This increase probably reflects headteachers' anxieties about the changes in the whole-school curriculum necessary to meet the Government's requirements for literacy and numeracy. The pattern of headteachers' concern about curriculum change shown by our surveys over the past four years reflects the pattern of change in the National Curriculum. [...]
