Abstract

This book explores the role of the pedagogue and considers the concepts of ‘effectiveness’ and ‘high quality’ in the context of pedagogy and practice in Early Years settings. Drawing on theory and key research studies to discuss a range of approaches and perspectives that inform and influence contemporary understanding of pedagogy in the Early Years, each chapter examines facets of effective practice. Reflective and practical tasks encourage the reader to engage with different aspects of pedagogy and to set these in the practical context of planning for children’s learning and development within an enabling environment. Case studies and self-assessment questions prompt reflection on how the practitioner demonstrates effective practice and supports the practice of others.
