Abstract
Review of this 10 chapter publication which arose as a result of a symposium held in May 2012 in the USA, hosted and sponsored by the Brookings Institution titled ‘‘The Arts, New Growth Theory, and Economic Development’’. This event came about as a result of a call in 2011 by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for research papers addressing the themes of measuring economic activity from arts districts, the construction of arts centres and museums, and tax policies to support arts productivity and innovation.
