Abstract

Distance learning provides a relatively new method for teaching in higher education. However, the evaluation of these programmes is insufficient at present. The current study adds to the body of research providing guidance for distance educators. The qualitative data collected on 28 students in Hong Kong and Cairo indicates that there are differences based on cultural context in the following areas: communication with peers and module leaders as well as variations in willingness to discuss problems and provide recommendations to enhance the distance education programme. The conclusion points to issues that should be addressed at the module leader and administrative levels.
