Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate whether extended use of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) contributes positively to the engagement of the students in the learning process and whether this is consistent with a specific approach to learning and studying. The learning context is the Global Campus project, a blended learning mode used for the delivery of computing science courses locally and overseas. As different levels of participation were found across various locations, the results are discussed in the light of findings that address factors influencing distance learning students' learning.
