Abstract
It discusses the social, economic and political effects of the intense process of privatisation the Chilean economy has been subjected ever since the overthrow of Salvador Allende in 1973. It examines the mechanisms and practices which brought about income concentration at the top of the social pyramid and the impoverishment of broader sections of those at the bottom, as one of the manifestations of globalisation in this South American nation.
