In this chapter the argument is made that organised crime and terrorism cannot be analysed against the same theoretical background. Although they may pose similar threats to civil society, and despite official agencies and, at times, academics tend to ignore this difference, they remain two distinct forms of illegal conduct. In order to explain their respective nature, the author uses both criminological and social theory analytical categories'.
