Abstract

Exhibition curated by Andrea Harari. Mullaniff produced a series of expressive paintings exploring the application of the painted and drawn mark. This group of paintings was derived from live plant specimens; the mixing of the colour was direct response to the structure, form and compositional qualities of the plants. The emphasis was on observational drawing that eventually resulted in a series of decorative/ornamental plant structures that comprised the image across the picture plane. Andrea Harari writes, ‘Kathleen Mullaniff's aptly named series of paintings 'Summer Bright,' is laden with bursting colour as the full blooms which are her subject matter. Kathleen paints fluidly with a vibrant pallet. Dynamic in composition the viewer is drawn into the centre of these floral worlds. The paintings in this series are united by a sky blue background, which is visible through the variety of thick luscious blossoms.’ Exhibiting Artists. Claire Brewster - Tracey Bush - Juliet and Jamie Gutch - Daniela Mastandrea - Kathleen Mullaniff - Patricia Swannell - Kazuhito Takadoi - Jude Tuck
