Jon Bird curated a retrospective exhibition of the American artist Leon Golub (1922- 2004) for the Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid. The exhibition included 40 major paintings from the 1950s - 2004, and 3 groups of works: a series of 'abstracts' from 1970 (aprox 15 paintings - 'Shields', 'Gates' and 'Pylons'), the 'political portraits' (1976-77) - around 50 works, and the late works - 2 series of small paintings 'This Could Be You' and 'We Can Disappear You', plus a selection of drawings (60+) from 2002-2004. The paintings came from private and museum collections in the US, Europe and elsewhere. The works were exhibited in the Palacio de Velázquez, Parque del Retiro, Madrid.
