Broadhead's multi-disciplinery practice has evolved over 35 years, producing work that has loosely fallen into categories of jewellery, textiles, dance and fine art (Hill, R. in Peter Dormer Lecture 2002, Crafts no 177 p40; Craft in Transition, Veiteberg, J, Bergen National Academy of the Arts, p75-81). A previous collaboration A Waiting Game, Upnor Castle, Kent integrated the building's history and former use and explored design and dance in an alternative space. A key element was the exploration of personal space, touch and territory. The way audiences encounter dance and notions of intimacy became focal points in several collaborative works. In Court, participants were reduced to three audience members and two performers. The design created a confined space with an airy, but potentially claustrophobic atmosphere. Detailed movements, played with ‘almost touch' and creating a sensitised environment. The performance happened in silence and offered an intense and personal experience. Immediate responses by audience members were documented from over 300 performances. Funded by Arts Council and Middlesex University, Court toured to 13 venues across the UK including: Angel Row Gallery, Nottingham 13-18 January, 2005; Yorkshire Sculpture Park 16-20 November 2005; Sadlers Wells Theatre, London 16,17,18 November 2006. Subsequent collaborative works with Angela Woodhouse: Threshold, shortlisted for the inaugural The Place Prize, 2004; Dreams and Ruins, a site specific commission for Witley Court, Worcestershire for English Heritage and Dance Fest, 2005. A new work, SHOW, received ACE funding. reviews: Galleries, by Lancine Hope, July 03, p16 The Dance Insider, by Josephine Leask, 2003 The Observer, Jann Parry, July 4, 2004,6903,1253437,00.html#article_continue Catherine Hale, 23 June 2004 A Space for Dance?
